Welcome Home Blessing for Loretta Kemp

Tuesday morning of March 17 at 11 a.m., we gathered at Loretta Kemp’s home for her welcome home blessing. Joining me were Rev. David Payne, Beth Palmer (case manager), Mary Campana and Katie from Habitat for Humanity, and Kean Tonetti from the Foundation. It was a warm and meaningful visit with Ms. Kemp, a retired nurse who has spent years caring for others in the Kerr County community.

Her home had flooded to the ceiling and was completely destroyed. When she began removing part of an exterior wall, water poured out from between the walls—a stark reminder of just how severe the damage was. Habitat for Humanity stepped in, taking the house down to the studs and rebuilding it beautifully.

Ms. Kemp shared how excited she was to now have a dishwasher—something she had never had before. After spending the past few months in an Airbnb funded by the Community Foundation, she was finally able to return home about a month ago. Thanks

to the swift and dedicated work of Habitat, Ms. Kemp is back in a safe, comfortable, and permanent home.
