Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country Launches $40 Million Housing Recovery Fund

Kerrville, Texas—The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country today announced a landmark $40 million pledge to establish the Housing Recovery Fund, a dedicated effort to ensure safe and stable housing for families impacted by the devastating July 4 floods. The announcement was made at a press conference at the Dallas Daughtry Memorial Pavilion in Kerrville, bringing together state and community leaders, including Governor Greg Abbott; local organizations such as Hunt ISD; West Kerr Chamber of Commerce, Kerrville Design Build, and national partners such as Airbnb.org.

“This fund is about more than rebuilding houses; it’s about restoring hope and dignity for Hill Country families,” Austin Dickson, CEO of the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, said. “We cannot do this alone, and we are grateful for the extraordinary collaboration of our partners and the generosity of donors who are stepping up in a remarkable way.”

“Texans come together in times of crisis, and this $40 million commitment is a shining example of how we build solutions from the ground up,” Governor Greg Abbott, said. “This effort is not about politics. It’s about people. I’m proud to stand with the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country as we help families rebuild their lives with dignity.”

Christoph Gorder, executive director of Airbnb.org, highlighted the importance of immediate and temporary relief: “Having a safe place to stay is the first step toward recovery. Thanks to the Foundation’s $1.6 million grant, Airbnb.org will provide free housing—short and long term—for families displaced by the floods. We are honored to be part of this community-wide recovery.”

The Housing Recovery Fund represents the largest single recovery investment ever made by the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. Residents in need of housing support are encouraged to complete the needs assessment form at RebuildKerr.org, where case managers are standing by to connect families with available resources within one week.
